We were pleasantly surprised by the rooftop garden at Hostel Village Hayashi-Kaikan. It provided a peaceful oasis in the midst of the city and we could imagine it being a great place to relax during the summer months. despite some drawbacks, we would recommend this hostel for its unique features and convenient location.

Very old installations, very very VERY small rooms (they fit 2 people in an individual room). The room was no more than 5 square meters

Very good location, only 10 minutes walk from Chinatown and close to restaurants, public baths, etc. Quite cheap.
Room was small (approx. 2 x 3 m), but if you're aware of that, it's not too much of a problem.

I recently stayed at Yokohama Hostel Village Hayashi-Kaikan for a week during my solo trip in Yokohama. The location was perfect, just minutes away from Ishikawacho Station, Chinatown, and Motomachi Shopping Street. The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful, and they spoke excellent English. They provided me with great amenities like free breakfast, loaner umbrellas, and even a bike with gears! The traditional tatami mat rooms were a unique experience, and the rooftop garden was a beautiful spot to relax. it was the best deal for a single traveler like me.
I do recommend this hotel.

The hostel was conveniently located near the subway and JR station, making it easy to travel around the city. being close to Chinatown was a major plus, as it allowed me to explore the vibrant cultural and culinary scene. the affordable rates of the hostel made it a budget-friendly choice for my business trip.
The hostel had a few drawbacks. the rooms were quite small, which made it a bit cramped, especially if you have large luggage.

Nice staff helped to carry our heavy luggage up. It's easy to locate and near JR station. Also gave us free photo as souvenir but we lost it now :/

The staff at this hostel were incredibly helpful and friendly throughout my stay. They assisted with parking and luggage and made my visit a pleasant one. I also appreciated the easy access to laundry facilities and the rooftop area, which provided a nice place to relax. The free wifi and 24/7 hot and cold drinking water were convenient features. the hostel's location within walking distance to the Yokohama Bay Stars Stadium was a bonus.
While the room was small, it was very clean and had all the necessary amenities such as a TV and fridge. However, the selection of coffee beans was overwhelming, making it hard to choose just one.

Most of thest of t staff were friendly and they could speak English. There is a nice garden at the roof where you can eat, smoke.
One adjective that can describe well this hostel and its staff is stingy. They don't give you anything for free. You have to buy towel if you don't have, in the shower there is no shampoo or body soap. They have computers with internet but you have to pay as well to use them. My room was tiny and old, only space for the futon and little more. In other hostels for the same price they let you use for free towels, a yukata, green tea, shampoo, body soap... Walking the street where the hostel was I saw another one, 3000 yens breakfast included, probably it can't be worse than this hostel. I paid more because I paid by credit card, even if in the web they don't say anything. Unless you only want a place to sleep I would recomend going to another hostel or even Kawasaki that is close to Yokohama.

The room for 2 is really too small and 1 shower per floor is not enough
